(Concord, NH) – Today, Congresswoman Annie Kuster filed for reelection to Congress representing New Hampshire’s Second Congressional District. Kuster is running for a fourth term. Kuster was joined by supporters at the State House in Concord for the filing where she discussed her priorities as a member of Congress:

“Today, I filed for reelection to Congress because the people of New Hampshire’s Second Congressional District deserve someone who will fight for them every day and who will always put them first,” said Kuster. “When I first came to Congress, I was committed to bringing the New Hampshire approach to Washington and that is exactly what I’ve done. By bringing people together and focusing on areas of agreement we’ve made real progress in taking on the opioid epidemic, addressing issues in care for Granite State veterans, and expanding economic development in rural parts of our state. I look forward to continuing to work across the aisle to increase economic opportunity so that every hardworking Granite State family has the chance to get ahead and make a great life for themselves here in New Hampshire.”

Annie Kuster has consistently worked with both Republicans and Democrats to advance policies important to New Hampshire. She co-founded the Bipartisan Heroin and Opioid Task Force, which now has more than one hundred Members of Congress and has been a driver of legislative action to address the crisis. The Task Force helped pass 14 bills as part of the Comprehensive Addiction Recovery Act. This Congress, Kuster’s VA Prescription Data Accountability Act was signed into law and the Task Force helped to reach agreement on $6 billion in new opioid funding over two years, millions of which has already been directed to New Hampshire. Kuster also worked with her colleague from West Virginia, Evan Jenkins (R-WV), to introduce legislation to ensure opioid funding is targeted to states hardest hit by the epidemic.

As a member of the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, Kuster has focused on addressing the unique challenges veterans in New Hampshire have faced in accessing care and services. Kuster authored safeguards for whistleblowers, which were signed into law as part of the VA Accountability First Act, to improve training of supervisors in whistleblower rights and protections. She has held VA leadership in New England and nationally accountable for failures to provide veterans with the care they deserve. Recently, Kuster cosponsored the VA MISSION Act, which was signed into law and included a provision pushed for by Kuster that expands and improves the Choice Program for New Hampshire veterans.

Kuster has also worked on expanding economic opportunity for all Granite State families and supporting infrastructure and economic development projects in rural parts of the state. She recently announced her Jobs and Opportunity agenda, which outlines a comprehensive legislative package to give Granite Staters the opportunity to access apprenticeship and training programs, address the out of control costs of higher education, and support small business growth. Her legislation the Promoting Travel, Commerce, and National Security Act was signed into law to promote trade and tourism between the U.S. and Canada. Kuster authored bipartisan legislation to reauthorize the Northern Border Regional Commission (NBRC) and was able to successfully advocate for funding in the FY 2018 funding bill. Between 2010 and 2017 NBRC invested more than $7.3 million in New Hampshire, resulting in more than $30 million in matching funds. Kuster has consistently pushed to promote economic development projects and direct federal infrastructure spending to New Hampshire.
