MANCHESTER, N.H. — New Hampshire’s congressional delegation was sworn in on Sunday, ahead of a significant week in politics.

Newly elected and returning members of Congress took the oath of office on Sunday, complete with masks and elbow bumps to follow COVID-19 protocols.

New Hampshire Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, Rep. Annie Kuster and Rep. Chris Pappas all took part in the ceremonies, ahead of what is expected to be a big week in Congress.

On Tuesday, the balance of power will be decided with two run-off elections in Georgia. New Hampshire’s delegation said no matter what happens, the margins will be slim and the ability to work together is key.

“Whoever wins, the goal should not be partisan advantage. The goal should be what do we need to do to address what’s happening in America,” Shaheen said.

“The only way we are going to get things over the finish line in this environment is to work in a bi-partisan fashion,” Pappas said.

On Wednesday, Congress is scheduled to meet in a joint session to certify President-elect Joe Biden’s victory, which some Republicans said they will object.

“I think they are taking it too far in the sense that it really is threatening our democracy to try to convince half the American people that the election wasn’t fair,” Kuster, a Democrat, said.

All of New Hampshire’s congressional delegation agreed the first priority for 2021 is beating COVID-19 and getting all Americans back on track.
