ELECT DEMOCRATIC WOMEN PAC SUCCESSES. A political action committee formed several years ago to promote Democratic women for elective office says it had a strong 2020 general election despite an overall loss of seats in the U.S. House.
“Elect Democratic Women” PAC, co-chaired by New Hampshire U.S. Rep. Annie Kuster and two other veteran House members, says its spending helped re-elect 16 of its front line members and seven additional candidates.
Overall, the group says it raised more than $7 million in the cycle to support women running for Congress in its first full election cycle. It says it is the third-largest Democratic caucus PAC in terms of fundraising and candidate candidates supported.
The group says it supported more than 106 women candidates, including five U.S. senators, and 43 members of the House. Sen. Jeanne Shaheen received $5,000 from the PAC, according to the Center for Responsive Politics.
"In 2020, women spoke loudly in favor of more equal representation at all levels of government, from the halls of Congress to the White House,” said Kuster, who won her fifth term representing the state’s 2nd Congressional District.
“Elect Democratic Women made unprecedented investments in support of women candidates across the country and that energy and enthusiasm helped put the most women in Congress in our nation's history.”
"On a bittersweet election night for the House, we were able to protect vulnerable incumbents who flipped seats in 2018, helping us secure the House majority once again and elect the first woman of color as vice president,” said Rep. Lois Frankel, D-Florida, who also co-chairs the PAC.
