State Senate Candidates

 
 

Edith Tucker (District 1)

Edith Tucker is an experienced journalist, covering the issues that matter most to Granite State communities. She is running for State Senate to advocate for the people of Coos County and upper Grafton County.

 

Sue Prentiss (District 5)

Suzanne Prentiss, BA, MPA, Paramedic, is a strong voice for Granite State women and families. An experienced and tested leader, Prentiss has held leadership positions in health care and public safety at the national, state, regional, and local levels.

 

Ruth Larson (District 6)

When Ruth Larson retired as a trial lawyer, she spent a short time enjoying the outdoors with her husband and dog. She soon immersed herself in local and state issues, trading leisure time for activism, and fighting for the causes she believes in. Reproductive rights and public education are among her top priorities, along with efforts to keep our local and state governments out of the hands of far-right extremists.

 

Charlene Lovett (District 8)

Charlene Lovett is a 22-year military veteran and the former Mayor of Claremont, a city "on the rise." Prior to serving on the City Council, she also served on the Claremont School Board and in the NH House of Representatives. Lovett is running for State Senate District 8, comprising the City of Claremont and 19 towns across four counties.

 

Shannon Chandley (District 11)

Shannon Chandley is a former member of the NH State Senate. She was the Vice Chair of the Judiciary Committee and a member of the Health and Human Services and Executive Departments and Administration Committee. In addition, she served on the PFAS Commission and the Board of Claims.

Before being elected to the State Senate, Shannon served three terms in the New Hampshire House of Representatives. 

Shannon served on numerous local boards, including those of SHARE Outreach, Girl Scouts of the Green and White Mountains and the New Hampshire Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence. Shannon and her husband Tom (both URI alum) live in Amherst, NH where they raised their 4 children.

 

Melanie Levesque (District 12)

Melanie Levesque is a dedicated public servant and small business owner running for New Hampshire State Senate, District 12. As a state legislator, she quickly established herself as a tireless advocate for her community, championing causes such as voting rights, ensuring quality public education, and supporting women's health. A Brookline, NH resident, Melanie resides with her husband Scott and daughter Logan.

 

Cindy Rosenwald (District 13)

Cindy Rosenwald serves as Deputy Democratic Leader in the New Hampshire Senate.  She is running for her 3rd term representing Nashua in the Senate after having served in the House for 7 terms.  This year, she was successful  in passing a dental benefit for low income adults enrolled in Medicaid.

 

Becky Whitley (District 15)

Becky Whitley is the state senator from District 15 running for re-election. Her entire career has been committed to social justice and public service, as a disability rights lawyer, climate activist and organizer, and child health policy specialist. Senator Whitley currently sits on the Senate Judiciary and Health and Human Services Committees and the Joint Legislative Committee on Administrative Rules.

 

June Trisciani (District 16)

June Trisciani was born and raised in Manchester and has devoted her career and time as a local alderman to serving the community that shaped her. In the Senate, June will fight for small businesses, community safety, and reproductive rights.

 

Christine Tappan (District 17)

Christine Tappan, running for New Hampshire State Senate in District 17, has previously served the people of New Hampshire as associate commissioner at the Department of Health and Human Services and as a School Board and Budget Committee member in her community of Northwood. She brings 25-plus years of experience in the public and private sectors, including as a small business owner/entrepreneur, as well as a distinguished military, social work and education career to central New Hampshire. Christine is unequivocally pro-choice and a strong advocate for a woman's right to decide, in consultation with her doctor, her reproductive and health care options.

 

Donna Soucy (District 18)

Senator Soucy has served in the New Hampshire Senate since 2012 and currently serves as the Minority Leader.

Donna is focused on ensuring working families have an opportunity to get ahead- this includes supporting public schools, increasing access to affordable health care, and fixing our broken economy.

A Manchester native, Donna is a graduate of Trinity High School, earned her Bachelor of Arts from Saint Anselm College and her Juris Doctor from the then-Franklin Pierce Law Center in Concord, now part of the UNH System.

 

Rebecca Perkins Kwoka (District 21)

Rebecca Perkins Kwoka is the first openly LGBTQ+ woman elected to the New Hampshire State Senate, proudly serving District 21. Her leadership has empowered affordable housing, clean energy, reproductive rights, and effective progressive policy for all Granite Staters. Rebecca is also a mother of two, wife, green energy lawyer, and previous Peace Corps service member.

 

Deb Altschiller (District 24)

Three-term House of Representatives member Debra Altschiller has been fighting for reproductive freedom for decades, and the fight is still ongoing. Inspired by the indefatigable work and spirit of the two-term Texas House member the Honorable Sarah Weddington, who represented "Jane Roe," Senate candidate Representative Altschiller has a legislative record of sponsoring and taking reproductive choice legislation from grassroots advocacy to laws. Representative Altschiller has served three years on the House Judiciary Committee and two years on the Child and Family Law Committee advocating for women to be empowered to have control over their reproductive choices.
